1. 1. DCFS transports child to medical facility within 2-4 hours for medical examination, tests for exposure, and decontamination (i.e., shower and clean gown and blanket). FSW supports medical staff with available information about child.
2. 2. Medical staff performs medical assessment:*
3. 3. Medical staff shower child for decontamination purposes (Place exposed clothes, blankets, underwear, stuffed animal, socks, etc. in trash bag and discard). Rinse shower facility with soap and water.
4. 4. Medical staff furnishes child a hospital gown, blanket and stuffed animal for transport to placement site.
5. 5. Medical billing for examination goes to Medicaid or appropriate billing source – for example, parent’s insurance.
6. 6. FSW does exit summary with medical staff, transports child to placement site, and completes meth exposure form with foster parent or placement site personnel.
