Janis Burnside, Clinical Director of Freedom House, a residential alcohol and substance abuse treatment facility, and Bob Adkison, CEO of ARVAC, Inc., discuss the final report of the Legislative Task Force on Substance Abuse. Recommendations as to how the community can get behind the upcoming 5% alcohol industry support of a substance abuse treatment pre-payment fund were discussed at the November River Valley Meth Project meeting. The intent of the alcohol pre payment fund is to support programs for the elderly, women and children, and community and family members who experience the need for substance abuse treatment. According to law enforcement officials, other expected benefits of the legislation include reduced burglaries and thefts which would have impact upon local businesses, law enforcement, and the larger community in general.
