White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, Senior Policy Analyst, Keith Humphreys told the River Valley Meth Project group of about 160 at the January 27th meeting that the federal government is seeking a balance between law enforcement and prevention/ treatment approaches which will bring ‘public health’ up to the level of ‘public safety’ for drug related issues. Humphreys indicated that alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and prescription drugs were all significant problems within the borders of the United States and that 8000 people per day start using. Humphreys indicated that the federal government strategy is “about being smarter” in its efforts to push down on the demand for substances.
